duck pond day 2005
Duck Pond Day 2005 was another success!! By mid-afternoon the sky was blue,
the sun was shining, and the people were smiling. The ponds looked their best,
with fresh yellow ribbons on the almost-blooming cherry trees, new plantings
and all the ducks in their Sunday best. And as the parade came down North Country
Road, the spirit of community was strong. Once again, the wonderful music provided by the Homegrown String Band and Frank Porcelli wafted across the ponds and many children wore the colorful images of Agostino Arts Transformation face-painting. Line dancing was taught after the parade and the children were amused with string beads and coloring yo-yo's to take home as souvenirs of the day. As always, the Duck Fishing Game was a big hit too. The hearty participants of the Artisans' Craft Fair were rewarded by the afternoon sun and crowds and all were successful. Beautiful T-Shirts and artwork were sold inside the History House, along with baked goods and coffee. Including the raffle and the flower sale, this was a great fund raiser for the Wading River Historical Society. It was also nice to see so many of our elected officials enjoying the day, among them, from Riverhead Town, former and present Town Supervisors Vinny Vallela and Phil Cardinale, Town Board members George Bartunek, Barbara Blass, Ed Densieski, and Rose Sanders, and from Brookhaven Town, Councilman Kevin T. McCarrick. Also in attendance was Riverhead Chief of Police, David Hegermiller. The volunteers were, as always, indispensable. The Pondscape Committee thanks Aaron Burke, Cynthia Dieterich, Jack Fitzpatrick, Helga & Jack Guthy, Mike Harrigan, Ann Masek, Stacey Moran, Jean and Nina Mostaccio, Laurie Remington, Annika Shapiro, Howard and Debbie Zelizer, and Anna and Helen Zurawinsky for all their hard work. See you next year!
