The Riverhead Town Board invited Richard Comi, founder of the Center for Municipal Solutions to help them with issues related to wireless technology. There are currently multiple applications for cell towers in Wading River are there is a good chance that more are expected. Supervisor Walter strongly endorsed the need for wireless technology to help evaluate current and future cell tower applications.
At the end of the 8/26/ 10 presentation it was decided that the town would review an already prepared draft of a new town code
at the 9.2/10 work session and that a resolution to adopt the new town code could be put forth at the 9/8/10 Town Board meeting.
Councilman Dunleavy expressed concerns about "over regulating something so that nobody would want to come here." Dunleavey was not convinced that the town needed an expert to assist in the evaluation of wireless aplications.Dunleavey indicated that even though Supervisor Walter wanted a wireless expert, the town board needs time to discuss it and then vote on it. |

A bill sponsored by NYS Assemblyman Marc Alessi and in the Senate by Brian Foley to address the helicopter noise problem in Suffolk was vetoed by Governnor Patterson. The bill called on the NY Department of Transportation to prepare a report on noise abatement procedures at certain public use heliports and public use airports in the county of Suffolk. Patterson's veto memo indicated that although he was sympathethic to the concerns of Suffolk residents the FAA has the authority to regulate helicopters and the cost of doing such a report was more than the state could afford. |

The Supervisor indicated that at the earliest , the necessary go ahead for the sale of the land wouldn't happen before Spring 2011. |

The Town of Riverhead has given Riverhead Resorts notice that if they do not pay the nearly $4 million they owe for the purchase of a 755-acre parcel at EPCAL the deal is dead. Apparently at least two other town board members, Giglio and Gabrielsen will support Supervisor Walter's threat to cancel the deal if there is no payment by Tuesday, 9/7/2010. Riverhead Resorts spokesman Mitch Pally indicated that they are diligently trying to meet this deadline. In the meantime the town of Riverhead has been working on subdividing the 755 acre tract so that it can be sold to Riverhead Resorts. |

The Town of Brookhaven may follow the example of the Town of Babylon and adopt a Complete Streets policy . Under this Babylon policy "Any roadwork under the town's jurisdiction--whether planning, repair or new construction--must now be designed and executed to accommodate pedestrians of all abilities, cyclists, and public transportation. While not every street will have sidewalks or bike lanes, Babylon is committed to building "an interwoven array": of streets--networks for walking, bicycling, and transit so people can reach destinations safely and quickly without having to drive." The Town of Brookhaven is considering similar policies and might adopt them this August.
It should be noted that the Complete Street Concepts was also recommended by the BFJ , Brookhaven's Consultants for the Mount Sinai to Wading River Route 25A Corridor Study.
Unfortunately the Complete Streets polcy does not include those roads that under state or county control. Legislation for a statewide Complete Streets Policy is currently stalled in the state legislature. |

Rechler's original plans called for a 2.7 million square foot high-tech industrial park. Rechler had recently asked the town to modify the proposal and allow some residential and retail uses. The original purchase price of the 300 acres was $32 million but because of the bad economy the town has reduced the purchase price to $18 million. |
