Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko unveiled a series of new policies to fight blight. The idea is to "shift the mindset away from developing virgin land and redeveloping the suburban blighted properties" into walkable mixed used areas. The plan includes identification of areas in need of most redevelopment, creation of new redevelpment overlay incentive district which will allow developers more options and an analysis of parts of the town where sewer capacity can be either expanded or better utilized to serve new development. Development proposals will be prioritized on three criteria: the severity of the blight, community benefits and proximity to public transportation and downtown areas. |

On 3/27 Beacon Wireless Management conducted a crane simulation to address some of the many issues the Town of Riverhead requested be included in their Draft Environmental Impact Statement(DEIS) for a special permit to construct a 150ft. monopole on the Little Flower campus. Riverhead's Final Scope of Issues stated that, "The proposed monopole's commercial nature and appearance are a marked departure from the surrounding single family residential patter. Its 150ft agl height and 301 ft. height AMSL at the position chosen on site result in an extensive viewshed not limited to the surrounding area."
Presently it is known when Beacon Wireless will submit their completed DEIS to the Town of Riverhead. |
